- I also am happy with my Cardinal MV288XF (external - $150). I have also tried
- the Cardinal MV288XV (external voice modem - $199)), PPI 288 external ($175),
- and USR Sportster 33600 external ($220), and the Cardinal MV288XF works the
- best for my. Of course YMMV depending on type of modem you're connecting to,
- phone line quality, etc.
-
- The one "gotcha" I found w/ the Cardinal is that the V1.4 firmware decreased
- my connect speeds from 26400 typical to 24000 typical, and you can't go back
- once you're upgraded w/ the flash utility! Cardinal told me I'd have to
- return the modem to them and pay $30 to have it converted back to V1.40.
-
- Overall I am very happy with it, and it was the least expensive of the modems
- I tried (I got it at Incredible Universe).
